The BSDP (H) was founded on June 25, 2005 and goes back to the Belarusian Socialist Hramada .
History and program
The BSDP (H) is in opposition to the authoritarian regime of President Aljaksandr Lukashenka and is a member of the opposition alliance European Coalition Free Belarus (ECFB). Its former chairman, Aljaksandr Kasulin , was also the presidential candidate for Belarus of the ECFB alliance in 2006 and won 3.2% of the votes in the elections as the third strongest candidate ( presidential elections in Belarus 2006 ). He and his party participated in the protests against irregularities in the election. Kasulin was arrested for political reasons and was only released on August 16, 2008 after more than two years.
Aljaksandr Kasulin's successor at the head of the party was Anatol Lyaukowitsch . Iryna Wiesztard has headed the BSDP (H) since 2011 .
