Belarusian Association of Journalists
The Belarusian Union of Journalists (BAJ) ( Belarusian Беларуская асацыяцыя журналістаў Belaruskaja asazyjazyja schurnalistau ) is a non-governmental organization in Belarus . Its aim is to guarantee freedom of expression and the right to disseminate information and to promote professional standards of journalism.
The association was founded in 1995. The BAJ is a member of the International Federation of Journalists , the European Federation of Journalists and a partner of the organization Reporters Without Borders . Since 1998 he has constantly observed violations of freedom of expression and freedom of the media. BAJ has been publishing a specialist magazine Abajour since 2000 .
Awards
- In 2002 the BAJ was awarded the World Association of Newspapers ' Golden Pen of Freedom Award .
- In 2004 he received the Sakharov Prize from the European Parliament .
- In June 2011 the association received the Atlantic Council Freedom Award.
