The Belarusian nuclear power plant ( Belarusian Беларуская атамная электрастанцыя (АЭС) Belaruskaja atamnaja elektrastanzyja (AES) ) is in Belarus , near the town Astrawez in 45 kilometers from the Lithuanian capital Vilnius built.
history
The first plans to build a nuclear power plant were made in the 1980s. However, these were suspended after the Chernobyl disaster of 1986. Efforts for the current project were boosted by the Russian-Belarusian energy dispute in 2007. The location of the construction site was determined in early 2009.
The nuclear power plant will initially consist of two VVERs with a gross output of 1,194 megawatts each, whereby the two blocks are based on the principle of the VVER-1200/491 ( AES-2006 ). The Russian company Atomstroiexport is the contractor to build the nuclear power plant. Atomstroiexport will also supply the third generation VVER-1200 reactors.
Construction began for Unit 1 on November 8, 2013 and for Unit 2 on April 27, 2014. The first unit is scheduled to go online in March 2021. Commissioning for Unit 2 is planned for 2022
