The AES-2006 ( Russian АЭС-2006 , also English NPP-2006 ) is a type of nuclear power plant of the "III +" generation, which was designed by AtomENERGOPROEKT St. Petersburg and AtomENERGOPROEKT Moscow. Also participated OKB Gidropress and the Kurchatov Institute for the thermal-hydraulic and reactor physics part. The project is based on the older types AES-91 and AES-92 . The aim was to improve safety and reliability with optimized investments in power plant construction.

Technical characteristics

Joint ventures with companies from the west are planned for some plants.

In the AES-2006 the reactors of the type WWER -1000/491 and WWER-1200/491 are used. The AES-2006 also has double containment .

The thermal output is 3200 MW, the heat is transferred using a water- boric acid mixture under a pressure of 16.2 MPa. Four horizontal steam generators each generate (1602 + 112) t / h of saturated dry steam at a pressure of 7 MPa. The turbine, inlet pressure 6.8 MPa, consists of a high pressure turbine and a 4-stage low pressure turbine. The electrical output is given as 1189.8 MW. The capacity ( degree of utilization ) is 92%. The interval between "refueling" is up to 2 years. The non-exchangeable components have an expected service life of at least 60 years.

More project details

  • Passive safety systems combined with conventional active systems.
  • Earthquake protection, hurricanes, tsunamis, plane crashes.
  • Double reactor shell
  • Core catcher below the reactor vessel
  • Passive heat dissipation
  • Increased service life of 60 years, u. a. through stricter requirements on the chemical composition of the steel to reduce embrittlement due to critical temperatures
  • Increased diameter of the reactor vessel and number of measuring points for inventory of the current and expected housing properties

Further development of the AES-2006

The project " VVER -toi" is the next evolution of the AES of 2006. The development of future nuclear energy in Russia will mainly be based on the development of the "VVER-TOI".

The AES-2006 serves as a material basis, as one can refer to the experience of the industry in relation to previous nuclear power plant projects ( Nowoworonesch II nuclear power plant ). In this project, the most modern innovations are paired with pressurized water reactor design.

Nuclear power plants

In Russia, the first reactors of the AES-2006 type began to be built at the Novovoronezh II and Leningrad II sites in 2008 . Further reactors are to follow in Rostov , Seversk , Tver , Kaliningrad (Neman) and Nizhny Novgorod .

A reactor is to be built in Finland .
