The Leningrad II nuclear power plant ( Russian Ленинградская АЭС II [ listen ? / I ]) is being built 60 km west of Saint Petersburg on a bay of the Gulf of Finland next to the Leningrad nuclear power plant . The Sosnovy Bor nuclear power plant is also located on the site . Audio file / audio sample

The nuclear power plant will initially consist of two VVERs with a gross output of 1,199 megawatts each, whereby the two blocks are to be based on the principle of the VVER-1200/491 ( AES-2006 ). Ultimately, a new series is to be created from the reactors in the power plant. Up to six reactors are planned at the site. The power plant is to replace the Leningrad nuclear power plant and at the same time withstand and better cover the region's electricity needs.

history

In May 2006, the head of the Russian atomic energy agency Rosatom presented plans for a new building with six reactors. Six VVER-1200 reactors with a capacity of 1085 MW each are planned. The VVER-1200 is based on the experience gained during the construction of the Tianwan and Kudankulam nuclear power plants . Atomstroiexport received the tender and with it the order . According to initial projections, the costs amount to 136.8 billion rubles. Construction of units 1 and 2 began on August 30, 2007. The first unit went online in 2018. The start of construction for Block 3 is planned for 2018 [obsolete] and for Block 4 in 2019 [obsolete] .

Construction of the foundation of the first block officially began on October 25, 2008 with the pouring of the first concrete.
