Weiler is a village in the municipality of Pütscheid , Canton Vianden , in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg . Hamlet is in the Our Nature Park . The place crosses the CR 320. Neighboring places are Ackerscheid in the north, Pütscheid in the east and Merscheid in the west .

General and history

The area around Weiler has been populated since the Stone Age. A flint was discovered in the place, dating from the Mesolithic , around 10,000 to 4,500 BC. BC, dates. There are also numerous Roman sites in the vicinity.

The small village of Aweiler, which emerged in Franconian times, has existed near today's village since the early Middle Ages . Aweiler was first mentioned in 1263. The place was already settled with a villa in Roman times. Due to the severe devastation caused by the plague in the 1630s, Aweiler was abandoned by its residents. The few surviving residents founded today's village of Weiler a short distance from the old town of Aweiler. To protect against the plague, a fugure of St. Rochus of Montpellier was set up in the new chapel .

Weiler has always been part of the Merscheid parish. The place has a church with the Nikolauskapelle.
