The canton of Vianden is the smallest canton in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in terms of both area and population .

geography

It is located in the north of the country and borders in the north on the canton of Clervaux , in the east on the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and in the south and west on the canton Diekirch .

history

The forerunner of the canton was the county of Vianden .

Until the abolition of the Luxembourg districts on October 3, 2015, the canton belonged to the Diekirch district .
