The canton of Grevenmacher is located in the east of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg . It borders in the north on the canton Echternach , in the east on the German state Rhineland-Palatinate , in the south on the cantons Remich and Luxembourg and in the west on the canton Mersch .

Until the abolition of the Luxembourg districts on October 3, 2015, the canton belonged to the Grevenmacher district .
