The canton of Diekirch is located in the north of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg . It borders the cantons of Clervaux and Vianden to the north, the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the canton of Echternach to the east, the canton of Mersch to the south and the cantons of Redingen and Wiltz to the west .

Until the abolition of the Luxembourg districts on October 3, 2015, the canton belonged to the Diekirch district .
