The Hamlet Machine Tools GmbH (proper spelling WEILER) is a medium-sized company in the machine tool industry in Mausendorf / Emskirchen in Herzogenaurach . Weiler manufactures lathes of various types and sizes as well as radial drilling machines.

history

Friedrich Weiler founded the company in 1938. Initially, he produced lathes in a makeshift building, the building of a former shoe factory in the Franconian town of Herzogenaurach . At that time, as part of a four-year plan, the German government wanted to promote its own machine tool industry to the best of its ability in order to make the country independent of the then leading Swiss manufacturers. Technological input came in particular from the Technical University of Munich .

After the Second World War , it was possible to build on the pre-war development and to resume the production of lathes from 1948. In the course of the general economic upturn in the Federal Republic of Germany, WEILER also saw a steep upswing; as early as 1959, the factory in Herzogenaurach was too small, so a second factory was built in Ansbach . In 1969 the son of the company's founder, Hermann Weiler, took over the helm.

In 1977 the first CNC lathes were built. Once again, the existing production facilities became too small and a completely new plant was built in Mausdorf / Emskirchen on the "green field" .

At the end of the 1980s, the company ran into economic difficulties, so that in 1990 it was sold to Voest Alpine Steinel , an Austrian group. Friedrich K. Eisler became top manager and Hermann Weiler left the company in 1993.

As it turned out that the production at three different locations had disadvantages, it was decided to shut down Ansbach and Herzogenaurach as part of a complete restructuring and to concentrate the production in Mausdorf. In the mid-1990s, Friedrich K. Eisler took over the Weiler company as the sole shareholder of Voest Alpine Steinel as part of a management buy-out , so that the company was again family-owned. A continuous upward development began.

In 2000 the machine tool factory in Holoubkov, Czech Republic was taken over by Weiler. In addition to supplier components for lathes, this is where the Weiler radial drilling machines in particular are manufactured.

The well-known milling machine manufacturer Kunzmann has been part of the Weiler Group since 2016 . Kunzmann is primarily known for his manually operated milling machines, which can often be found in training workshops.

Production sites

At the parent plant in Mausdorf / Emskirchen , around 300 employees are involved in the manufacture of lathes. The production of radial drilling machines is concentrated in Holoubkov (near Rokycany ), Czech Republic. Hamlet North America in Mount Pleasant (South Carolina) acts as the sales office for the important North American sales market.
