The Barth wine and sparkling wine estate is a winery in the Rheingau . The family company based in Hattenheim presses white and red wines and has been a member of the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries (VDP) since 1999 .

history

In 1948 Johann Barth founded the Hans Barth winery in Hattenheim, and in 1956 the first bottled wines were bottled and sold. In 1973, Norbert Barth, Hans Barth's son, joined his parents' business after completing his apprenticeship as a winemaker at Reinhartshausen Castle . In 1989 the company was expanded by building a hall for pressing , bottling , storage maturation of bottled wines, a champagne fermentation room, vibrating, disgorging and dispatch warehouse.

In 1999 the winery joined the VDP. Since 2000, the winery has been planting a vineyard with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in collaboration with the Geisenheim research station as the first winery in the Rheingau . In 2009 the operating area was enlarged to 19.5 hectares by leasing the Hallgarten and Oestricher sites. Christine Barth, granddaughter of Johann Barth and daughter of Norbert Barth, joined the family winery after completing her studies. In 2010 the first Barth Primus from the 2007 Riesling First Growth Hattenheim Hassel was presented. It is the first and only sparkling wine in Germany made from the VDP-classified first-growth wine .

The winery with the associated vineyards has the legal form of a GbR , the sales are handled by a GmbH under the company Barth GmbH Wein und Sekthaus . Vertriebs-GmbH is a small corporation .

Products and locations

Since 1992, all sparkling wine has been made in the winery using the traditional bottle fermentation method. The sparkling wines are from Riesling - Pinot and - Pinot Noir won grapes. As is typical for the Rhine region, the wine grape varieties are listed with 73% Riesling, followed by 20% Pinot Noir, as well as 5% Pinot Blanc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon .

The vineyard's locations include Hattenheim Schützenhaus, Hattenheim Hassel, Hattenheim Wisselbrunnen, Hallgarten Jungfer, Hallgarten Hendelberg, Hallgarten Schönhell, Oestrich Lenchen and Oestrich Doosberg.
