The vineyard is a 111 meter high elevation south of Groß Fredenwalde , a district in the east of the municipality of Gerswalde in Brandenburg .

The elongated and wooded vineyard is located south of Groß Fredenwalde. It towers above the surroundings and represents a landmark that is one of the highest elevations in the Uckermark . The vineyard is located in a terminal moraine area formed by the Ice Age .

Surname

The name of the mountain can be traced back to the former viticulture , which was already practiced on its slopes in the Middle Ages . Viticulture ended in the 18th century after the last vines were destroyed by frost in 1739.

archeology

In 1962, when a signal mast was being built on the hilltop, a burial site with skeletal remains of six people was found dating from the Mesolithic around 6000 BC. BC. Since then, the vineyard has been known to archaeological experts as an important site and as the oldest burial ground in Germany.
