Friedrich Bastian winery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Friedrich Bastian winery in Bacharach on the Middle Rhine in the growing area of the same name dates back to 1753 and is now in the eighth generation. It is affiliated with the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries (VDP). The family business is now run by Friedrich Bastian (* 1968) and his wife. The associated winery-hereditary farm Zumgrün Baum is located on the market square in Bacherach. As a specialty, the company grows one of the very few island wines.

history

The progenitor of the family is Johann Martin Bastian, mentioned in 1625 in the neighboring village of Stromberg . But only his son, born around 1675, had the first name Friedrich. His son (Friedrich II.) Married Anna Maria Schippert in 1753, who brought the Zumgrün Baum hereditary farm, built in 1421, with agriculture and vineyards into the marriage. A generation later, it is Otto Friedrich (III.) Who , through his marriage in 1815, makes Heyles'en Werth island a family property. Around 1880 the property, which is now 22 hectares in size, is divided between the three brothers or paid out. The vineyards on the island are converted into arable land. Friedrich Bastian (V.) built his retirement home on the island in 1903 and passed the business on to his sons Fritz and Karl. Karl fell in World War I, and his wife Else ran the farm with Fritz in the following years. Fritz did not hand over the farm to his children Fritz (VII., 1930-2005) and Ruth until he was 80 years old. In the 1960s, the island of Zankball was involved in family disputes, and it aroused covetousness at the Bingen Waterways and Shipping Office . But Fritz can successfully defend himself and from 1970 onwards he turned his idea, the island wine , into reality.

In the mid-1970s, Wim Wenders shot scenes with Hanns Zischler and Rüdiger Vogler on the island for the 1976 film Im Lauf der Zeit . Friedrich (VIII) has been with the company since 1989, which he has officially headed since 1993. In addition to his apprenticeship as a winemaker, he initially took private singing lessons and, from 1990 onwards, studied music at the Munich University of Music and Theater .

Vineyards

The vineyards are located in Bacharach and the neighboring municipality of Steeg . In addition there is the island “Heyles'en Werth” in the Rhine.
