The Müller-Catoir winery is an old winery in the Haardt district of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in the German wine-growing region of the Palatinate . The current owner is Philipp David Catoir. The cultivation area is 21 hectares. Between 130,000 and 160,000 bottles of white and red wine are produced annually from this area. In addition to the main grape variety Riesling are Pinot Blanc , Pinot Gris , Pinot Noir , Rieslaner , Scheurebe , Muscat and Sauvignon Blanc grown.
history
The winery has been in the family since 1744. For almost 100 years, the company was led by women (grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother of the current owner) who have had a lasting impact on the property. In 1968 Jakob Heinrich Catoir took over a property that had been split up due to the division of inheritance, which he returned to sole ownership over a period of 40 years. Since 2004 the company has been a member of the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries (VDP). The cellar master Martin Franzen was added to the list of "Wine Personalities of the Year" by Robert Parker in 2006. Philipp David Catoir has been continuing the family tradition since 2009 in the 9th generation.
building
The house and farm building were originally built around 1600 in the Baroque style. Between 1889 and 1904 the winery complex was equipped with a high-quality neoclassical facade. The interior was also in the Wilhelminian style. The current appearance of the house and farm buildings is essentially unchanged. The winery building is a listed building.
Locations
70% of the vineyard area is on the slope, 30% on the flat. The locations are exclusively on the Mittelhaardt , mainly in the districts of the Neustadt districts of Haardt , Gimmeldingen and Mußbach . The location names are: Haardter Bürgergarten, Haardter Herrenletten, Haardter Herzog, Haardter Mandelring, Gimmeldinger Almond Garden and Schlössel. All locations of the winery are VDP classified. The wines grow on different soils: from red sandstone and heavy Letten to loess to loamy gravel.
