Weisse Rose Institute

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Weisse Rose Institute eV is an association based in Munich, which is supposed to contribute to the research and scientific processing of the history of the White Rose .

The association, which uses the authentic spelling as on the leaflets, was founded on May 28, 2003 in Munich by members of the families of the "White Rose" - Huber, Probst, Schmorell, Schultze-Jahn and Furtwängler - and the historian Michael Kaufmann, who until 2002 had directed the permanent exhibition “Weisse Rose Monument” at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , organized by the White Rose Foundation .

Goals and projects

Since a large number of sources and documents on the history of the "White Rose" have not yet been opened up, fragmented archived and insufficiently processed and the memory of the resistance of the White Rose is overlaid by legends and tendentious claims (according to Kaufmann, Süddeutsche Zeitung 2003), the main goal when the association was founded was to counter these developments.

For this purpose, the further processing of the legacy of the student resistance group against National Socialism is planned in order to achieve an overall appreciation of the resistance of the White Rose. The association wants to create an interdisciplinary research, education and documentation center. As a basis for this, a central special archive has been set up under the name “Weisse Rose Archive” since March 30, 2007 in cooperation with the Bavarian Main State Archive , which includes bequests, collections and also original books from the property of the Friends of the Resistance Group, including their political philosophy and also influenced the texts of the leaflets. In addition, the association is committed to protecting copyrights and image rights for the relatives and survivors of the families of the resistance group. Numerous book publications and commemorative events are also sponsored and organized by the institute.
