The Weissenburgbad , formerly called Kuranstalt Weissenburg , is a former thermal bath in the municipality of Därstetten in the canton of Bern .

It is the oldest healing spring in the Bernese Oberland. The bath became a state concession in 1604 and achieved international repute in the 19th century. Initially located in the Buuscheschlucht , it was later moved to the village. A magnificent building was operated from 1898 to 1939 and burned down in 1974. From 1890 onwards, the Bad Weissenburg company operated the pool for a time .

The new bath is 890  m above sea level. M. on a terrace of the Buuschetal, a side valley of the Simmental . The nearest railway station is Weissenburg , from where a shady, gently sloping road leads in 15 minutes, along the course of the Buuschebach , through fir trees and deciduous forest, to the memorials of the formerly stately Kurhaus. The ruins of the old Kurhaus are about 10 minutes' walk further back in the valley and are located a little higher, namely where it squeezes in like a gorge towards the thermal spring .

Thermal spring

According to Huguenin, the Weissenburger Therme is a warm, earthy spring which, in addition to a moderate content of earth, is characterized by a relatively higher content of alkalis .

Since 2007 the mineral water has been available free of charge from Weissenburg train station. A "group association of the Weissenburgbads has kept the source alive with work and investments. New lines have been drawn as well as constructions of them.

The Weissenburg Mineralthermen sold flavored mineral water in bottles ( Weissenburger-Citro ) as a novelty until the 1980s .
