Further education college

Further education college refers to the schools of the second educational path in NRW . It encompasses the evening secondary school, evening high school and college courses . The advanced training colleges are general education schools and do not belong to the vocational colleges .

target group

The target group are adults who want to achieve a higher-quality school leaving certificate during or after a job . In most cases, the goal is to start studying at a college or university . In contrast to schools of the first educational pathway, we do not speak of pupils, but of students.

Evening middle school

The evening secondary school usually leads to a middle school leaving certificate (with or without a qualification note) within two years. Evening secondary school graduates can then continue their training at an evening grammar school or college even without meeting the professional requirements.

Evening grammar school and college

Evening grammar school and college lead to general university entrance qualification in three years . The evening grammar school is aimed primarily at employed people who, in addition to their employment, want to acquire the Abitur part-time. The college takes place in full-time education and student loans -gefördert.

As a rule, entry requirements are at least 24 months of employment and an intermediate school leaving certificate.

For applicants who do not meet the school requirements, a preliminary course is usually offered.

Organization and structure

The courses are divided into six semesters , the first two form the introductory phase, semesters 3–6 the qualification phase. As a rule, it is possible to start after the summer holidays or on February 1st of each year.

At the evening grammar school the teaching obligation is at least 20 hours per week, at the college 30 hours per week.

The final exams are specified nationwide by the Central Abitur .
