Weitzer Parkett GmbH & Co KG is an Austrian manufacturer of parquet floors and wooden stairs. The family business with over 600 employees, which has existed since 1831, produces over 2 million m 2 of parquet annually . The export quota is over 50%. Weitzer Parkett also offers wage drying and - damping on. An in-house thermal power station generates heat and electricity by converting the wood waste generated in its own factory. 1700 households in the village of Weiz are supplied with renewable energy.

history

Weitzer Parkett was originally founded in 1831 as a veneer sawmill and turnery . The company exported to Hungary as early as the 19th century. From 1950, spools were produced for textile factories and shipped to India.

Parquet production began in 1955 and the range was expanded to include stairs in 1985. Innovations (1995: 2-layer parquet production, 2003: 3-layer parquet production and the parquet with "function") resulted in a victory in the November edition of the Öko-Test in 2007. Weitzer also won the new edition in 2009 Parquet prevailed in comparison against European manufacturers.

In 2003 a second plant for parquet production was built in Güssing . In 2006, the expansion to the “eco-energy” business area took place through the commissioning of the bio-heating power plant.

In 2009, the opening of the Parquet Worlds exhibition in Weiz with 1,500 m² of sales area, as well as the branch in Munich . There was an exit from production with tropical woods , there was also support for projects from Greenpeace , in which the then managing director Michael Wesonig also participated. Since then Weitzer Parkett has been processing almost exclusively wood from Austria and the neighboring countries. The family business is run in the 7th generation by the owners Wilfried Weitzer, Nicola Weitzer and Alexandra Decker-Weitzer and is 100 percent family-owned.

Weitzer Parkett produces solid parquet, 2-layer prefabricated parquet and 3-layer Click parquet in Austrian production. As a manufacturer, Weitzer Parkett also supplies step cladding made from parquet variations. Weitzer Parkett is the first manufacturer to offer functional parquet and has products such as maintenance-free parquet, silent parquet and healthy parquet in its range. At the beginning of 2011, the range was expanded to include a product line that allows the parquet to be individualized - the so-called iDESIGN PARQUET. An individual parquet floor can be put together from different colors, types of wood and surface finishes. Wood drying and steaming is also part of the company's range of services. 49 drying chambers and two smoking chambers enable an annual drying volume of 50,000 m³. The ten steam chambers have an annual steam volume of 16,000 m³.

distribution

The Weitzer parquet products are sold through handicrafts, as well as retail, specialist and wholesaling and furniture stores. In foreign markets, general importers are usually used. Those companies that exclusively operate Weitzer Parkett in specially designed exhibition rooms are seen as exclusive sales partners. This “showroom model” is designed for the core markets of Austria, Germany and Switzerland, with Weitzer Parkett itself operating the branches in Vienna , Munich and Linz .

environmental Protection

As one of the first parquet manufacturers, the company has completely dispensed with the processing of tropical wood to protect the tropical rainforest since 2009 and has only processed domestic wood from sustainable forest management since then . 50% of the wood comes from Austria, the rest comes mainly from neighboring countries.

Weitzer Parkett sponsored the environmental and social project "Belantara" in Indonesia , which is supported by Greenpeace , to protect the rainforest. Nicola Weitzer and his family also support a Greenpeace project as a major private donor.
