The Weiz Bulls are an Austrian ice hockey club from the Styrian town of Weiz . The club plays in the Styrian elite league in the 2016/17 season.
history
The Weiz Bulls were founded in 1992 under the name Weiz-Gleisdorf Ice Hockey Club . At that time it was a pure hobby team that consisted of approximately equal parts of players from Weiz and Gleisdorf , which was also taken into account in the naming. In 1999 the club became a member of the Styrian ice hockey association and officially changed the name to EC Red Bulls Weiz , since Gleisdorf now also had its own club. In addition to long-term participation in the Graz City League, the team also competed in the Styrian State League, which was founded in 2000. As a result, cooperations were entered into with the other ice hockey teams in Weiz, among other things to promote youth work. After being briefly named EC Weiz Lieb Bau Bulls , the team took part in the major league for the first time in the 2006/07 season and narrowly missed the playoffs there. In 2007 the current association was finally founded under the name Weiz Bulls , which also included the youth teams. In the 2007/08 season , the team was able to record its greatest success so far with the championship in the major league.
The team's home is the Weizer Stadthalle, which is used as an ice rink in winter .
