history

2014/15 season

The Styrian Elite League was played for the first time in the 2014/15 season. The league emerged from the dissolved third Austrian semi-professional NAHL . In addition, some clubs from the then Styrian regional league also took part . At that time, five teams took part in the championship: EV Zeltweg 2010 , LE Kings , ATSE Graz , EC Bulls Weiz and EC Panthers Frohnleiten . After 16 rounds a play-off was played, which is based on the "best of five" principle. Zeltweg dominated the preliminary round and clearly won the championship in duels against Weiz (3: 1) and Leoben (3: 0). The top scorer was Matthias Florian from ATSE Graz.

2015/16 season

In the 2015/16 season, the EC Rattlesnakes Hart got into the league and also made it into the play-offs. This season, too, Zeltweg dominated the basic round. Frohnleiten ended the season with just one win in 20 games. In the play-off, Zeltweg won 3-0 against the Rattlesnakes and ATSE Graz won the series 3-1 against Leoben. In the final, the ATSE Graz surprisingly won 3-1 against the weakened Zeltweger. The top scorer of the season was Robert Koller from ATSE Graz with 34 goals.

Season 2016/17

In the 2016/17 season, the elite league won another club: Kapfenberger SV was relegated from the second highest Austrian league, the Alps Hockey League , due to financial problems . Now the league consisted of seven teams. Kapfenberg was now the new favorite for the championship title, because the club was able to win all 18 games in the preliminary round. Kapfenberg, Zeltweg, ATSE Graz and, surprisingly, Frohnleiten qualified for the play-off. Frohnleiten was only just able to leave the teams from Weiz and Leoben behind. In the play-off, Kapfenberg won the series against Frohnleiten 3-1, with Frohnleiten being the only team that Kapfenberg was able to defeat in regular time . Zeltweg was able to prevail 3: 1 against ATSE Graz. In the final it was exciting until the last game, because Kapfenberg was ahead with two wins, but Zeltweg was able to equalize the series to 2-2 with two overtime wins. Kapfenberg won the last and decisive game 6-2. The play-offs drew thousands of Styrians into the ice rinks and some games were sold out except for the last standing room. More than 1700 spectators came to the final in Zeltweg. One game per round was broadcast live on the Internet and on YouTube . In spring 2017 it was still uncertain whether the KSV will remain in the Styrian Elite League in the 2017/18 season or whether it will switch back to the Alps Hockey League. As in the previous season, the top scorer was Robert Koller, with 35 goals.

Season 2017/18

In the current 2017/18 season there are some changes in the Styrian elite league. The LE Kings no longer take part in the league due to a decline in the squad. In the next season, the club wants to provide a team again. The departure of the Leobner family is compensated by the addition of the Graz 99ers Juniors. This year the Graz team will be playing with a team of U20 and U18 players from their club. The Kapfenberg SV remains the elite league. The club was not included in the Alps Hockey League because the Upper Styrians lack a competitive squad and financial resources. The club only plays test matches against teams from the second division. The team from Weiz is now working together with the regional division Hartberg from Eastern Styria and is now called the EC Bulls Weiz / Hartberg syndicate . The Murtal Loins from Zeltweg and the EC Panthers Frohnleiten can score with a squad upgrade this year. Little has happened at the Rattlesnakes and ATSE Graz . Kapfenberger SV
won the championship .

Season 2018/19

After the departure of Kapfenberger SV and the youth of the 99ers Graz, only five teams played in the league in the 2018/19 season. The ATSE Graz prevailed against the EV Zeltweg in the final and won the championship title.

Season 2019/20

After the end of the Austrian Amateur Hockey League (ÖAHL), Kapfenberger SV returns to the Styrian Elite League.
