Martin Werner Iberer (born May 30, 1986 in Graz ) is a former Austrian ice hockey goalkeeper who was active for many years with the EC Graz 99ers and various second-rate clubs. He has been a trainer at the ATSE Graz ice hockey section since 2017 .
Career
Martin Iberer began his career at a young age in the junior teams of the EC Graz 99ers and soon became a regular goalkeeper. He was used at the age of 14 as a substitute goalkeeper for the fighting team in the Austrian ice hockey league . In 2006, he finally moved overseas to the North American Hockey League , where he was on the ice for the Traverse City North Stars , Quad City Express and Alaska Avalanche teams . In 2007 he returned to Austria and signed a contract with the KSV ice hockey club in the national league . The following year, Martin Iberer moved to the EHC Bregenzerwald , where he was able to gain a lot of match practice.
In 2009 he played for EC Red Bull Salzburg , where he formed the goalkeeper team for the farm team in the National League together with Thomas Höneckl and Artiom Konovalov . Martin Iberer started the season brilliantly, in which he achieved a total of 4 shutouts (1 of them in the preseason).
For the 2010/11 season he returned to EC Graz 99ers . Shortly after the start of the season, he was awarded to the national league team HC Innsbruck , whose first goalkeeper Manuel Schönhill was injured. The Innsbruck team set a worldwide record this season, winning 21 games in a row. Martin Iberer was in goal in 14 of these games. Shortly before the start of the playoffs, the EC Graz 99ers brought him back to Graz.
Then Iberer ended his professional career and from then on played for the EC Weiz and later for ATSE Graz in the fourth-class Styrian elite league. He has been a trainer at ATSE since 2017.
Personal
Martin Iberer has two brothers, Florian and Matthias , who are also ice hockey players. His sister Anna plays for the Vienna Flyers .
