The EMAG Group is a manufacturer of machine tools (machining). The company's head office is in Salach in the Göppingen district . The main customer sectors of the EMAG Group are the automotive industry , the automotive supplier industry , mechanical engineering , renewable energies , the electrical industry and the oil field industry. More than 8000 pick-up lathes , 2500 grinding machines, 1800 machining centers and 1200 gear cutting machines are in use worldwide .

history

The company has been based in Salach since 1969 . The company was founded in 1867 in Bautzen as E isengießerei and M aschinenfabrik AG . In 1952 the company was re-established in Eislingen an der Fils and initially produced lathes and special machines. The company made a name for itself with the introduction of the world's first vertical lathe with a pick-up spindle in 1992. The classic lathe has been turned upside down: the tool carriers are fixed, but the main spindle with the workpiece can move in all axial directions. Thanks to the further development of this machine type and the integration of various technologies from the fields of turning , milling , drilling , grinding , hobbing and laser welding under one roof, the EMAG Group is one of the most important manufacturers of vertical lathes worldwide. Disc-shaped, wave-shaped and cubic workpieces are machined on the machines and production systems.

In 2009 the company was the world market leader in the manufacture of pick-up lathes. The total turnover of the EMAG Group in 2018 was € 673 million. The export share of sales is around 75%.

In addition to the 2 production companies and 4 technology companies, EMAG also operates 34 market companies and branches worldwide. In 2018 the number of employees worldwide was put at 3178.

The shareholders of the group of companies are the Heßbrüggen family and, since 2009, the Chinese textile machine manufacturer Jiangsu Jinsheng Industry Holding Co., Ltd. with a 50% share.
