The Swabian Machine Tools GmbH , short SW , is a manufacturer of production systems in the metalworking with headquarters in Schramberg - Waldmössingen .

history

SW emerged in 1981 as an independent branch of business from Heckler & Koch GmbH, which was taken over by British Aerospace in 1991 and realigned. The British company increasingly concentrated on defense, aerospace technology and finally spun off the mechanical and plant engineering division in 1995 - Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH was founded.

Against the background of the shareholder succession plan, after nine years of independence, in June 2004 the company was sold to the EMAG Group with headquarters in Salach . In October 2008 all shares in Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH were transferred to the newly founded Süddeutsche - EMAG Verwaltungs GmbH. Süddeutsche Beteiligungs GmbH, based in Stuttgart, took over 70% of Süddeutsche - EMAG Verwaltungs GmbH.

In 2012, Süddeutsche Zusammenarbeit GmbH took over the shares of the EMAG Group and is therefore the sole shareholder of Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH.

On January 1, 2015, SW took over the majority in bartsch GmbH from Tettnang , a specialist in the development of automated production systems and has since presented itself as a system provider of complete turnkey solutions . Bartsch has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of SW since April 2017 and bears the name SW Automation GmbH.

In 2016, the factory of SW Asia Co., Ltd. in Suzhou, China.

In 2017, SW North America, Inc. inaugurated a new production facility in the state of Michigan.

In 2018, Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH founded subsidiaries in Mexico and Italy. In 2019, the subsidiary SW France SAS was founded in France.

Over 1000 employees worldwide develop and plan machine tools , manufacturing systems and special accessories. In addition to the headquarters, the company is also represented in a total of 35 countries worldwide with its branches and sales partners. In 2018 the turnover was 400 million euros.

Products

Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH is a manufacturer of multi-spindle machining centers. The company is one of the leading manufacturers in this field. The portfolio includes 4- and 5-axis machining centers with 1, 2, 3 or 4 work spindles as well as drilling head machines. The machining centers are designed for heavy and light machining of workpieces with dimensions of up to 800 × 900 × 650 mm. The different series enable machining of the materials aluminum , steel , cast iron , cast steel and light metals.
