Welf II. (Linzgau)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welf II. Is a member of the Burgundian Guelph family and the probable progenitor of the Swabian Guelphs, thus the assumed link between both parts of the family (see list of the Guelphs ). It is proven on Lake Constance until the middle of the 9th century.

However, it is not clear who his parents are from the previous generation. Mainly Konrad I († 862) and Adelheid von Tours († after 866) come into question , but also Konrad's brother Rudolf († 866) and his wife Roduna (although it should be noted that Rudolf has proven to have a son of the same name who died in 881).

Nor is it proven, but only probable, that Eticho (attested around 900, † after 911, buried in Ammergau ) was his son, as the filiation of the Swabian Guelphs in the 10th century is not certain. It should be noted here, however, that Adelheid von Tours, the likely mother of Welf II, herself came from the house of the Etichones .

Welf II himself was 842/850 Count in Linzgau on Lake Constance and from 852 to 858 Count in Albgau in the southern Black Forest .
