The Wellier Kolk is a left arm of the Weser . Located just south of Wellie , a district of the patch Steyerberg in Nienburg , within the approximately 410-hectare conservation area, "Weseraltarm west of the barrage Landesbergen".
The Wellier Kolk is around 2.5 km long and on average less than 100 m wide. In the south it has two tributaries, the Bruchgraben and the Schinnaer Graben. In the north it drains over the Kolkgraben into the Wellier Loop , another oxbow lake of the Weser, which is under nature protection. The old arm of the Weser represents a favorable habitat for wading and water bird species and is particularly important as a resting area for migrating bird species .
In the northwest of Wellier Kolkes there is a bathing area with a bathing jetty with access ladder, a small beach and a lawn for sunbathing. The Kolk is also used as fishing water. Mainly agricultural areas border the Kolk .
