World in the evening (Vienna)
Welt am Abend (subtitle: Das Österreichische Abendblatt ) was an Austrian daily newspaper . It was founded and published by the French Information Service on October 1, 1946 - the only one of the eight newspapers founded by the Allied occupation powers in Austria after the Second World War . The paper was only published in Vienna , every day except Sunday and Monday. One copy cost 35 groschen .
On March 1, 1948, the "Welt am Abend" was taken over by the SPÖ- affiliated " Welt am Montag - newspaper publishing company" and on October 30, 1948 its publication was discontinued.
In 1948, Johannes Mario Simmel worked as a culture editor for the newspaper, wrote film reviews and feature articles until he moved to Munich in 1950 and worked there for the “ Quick ” magazine. Otto F. Beer and Oskar Maurus Fontana wrote theater reviews for the paper.
