World bee day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Weltbienentag is since 2018 on May 20 celebrated. On this day in 1734, Anton Janša , who is considered to be the pioneer of modern beekeeping , was born. The holiday was proposed by Slovenia within the framework of the United Nations and adopted on December 20, 2017. In 2019, 15 official events were held on three continents. An international round table was held in Rome.

Bees are known for their role in pollination and honey bees are also known for the production of honey and other bee products . In addition to honey bees, there are around 30,000 wild bee species worldwide . Of these, 548, 550 or even 574 species live in Germany, depending on the expert, the year of publication and the species concept used, almost half of which are considered threatened.
