World blood donation day
The World Blood Donor Day (Engl. World Blood Donor Day , in Germany Weltblutspendertag called) is on June 14 committed. On June 14, 1868, Karl Landsteiner , the discoverer of the blood groups , was born.
World Blood Donation Day was proclaimed in 2004 by four international organizations that work to ensure safe blood on the basis of voluntary and unpaid blood donation : World Health Organization (WHO), International Organization of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies , International Society of Blood Transfusion and International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations .
The day is intended to remind people that people with blood loss (e.g. childbearing women and accident victims) need blood donations . Some groups of recipients require whole blood donations ; others require individual blood components, e.g. B. erythrocytes (red blood cells), thrombocytes (blood platelets), blood plasma (see plasma donation ) or stem cells .
