history

In the 1940s, Catholic lawyers in several countries around the world came together to form societies and associations . After the Second World War , they received their own department within the International Catholic Intellectuals Movement, today's Pax Romana Association . The former president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, Cardinal Opilio Rossi , took the first steps towards an international association of Catholic jurists at a congress in Manila in 1979 . Further preparatory meetings were held before it was founded, until the constituent general assembly in Paris in 1986. The statutes and rules of procedure were adopted in the same year . To stabilize international connections, a colloquium was held in Rome in 1991 , at which participants from 17 countries and three continents were represented. On October 17, 2002, the World Federation was recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity as an international association of believers.
