Pax Romana (association)

Pax Romana is the association of the two independent "International Movement of Catholic Intellectuals (MIIC)" and the "International Movement of Catholic Students (MIEC)". The MIEC-Pax Romana (fr .: Mouvement International des Étudiants Catholiques) was founded in Freiburg ( Switzerland ) in 1921 , from which the MIIC-Pax Romana (fr .: Mouvement International des Intellectuels Catholiques) grew in Rome in 1947 . Pax Romana is an international Catholic association of believers under papal law recognized by the Holy See . It is recognized as a non-governmental organization by the United Nations (UN), UNESCO , ECOSOC , the Council of Europe and the European Union (EU).

MIEC-Pax Romana

The first movement of Catholic students arose in 1921 under the name "Pax Romana" in Freiburg, Switzerland. Inspired by the propagated by Pope Pius X. (1903-1914) and by Pius XI. (1922–1939) funded Catholic Action , it was founded as a student union and developed into a worldwide movement within Catholic Action. In 1947 another founding took place, the Pax Romana is divided into a branch for students and a branch for academics . The MIEC (Mouvement International des Ètudiants Catholiques) movement continued the work from 1921. The student branch also strived for close cooperation with the " International Catholic Student Youth " (JECD), from which the "International Coordination Office JECE-MIEC" developed, which works out joint pastoral projects. The MIEC develops projects for a pedagogy that should help the students, it wants to deepen the Catholic faith , promote the apostolate of the students and stand up for a just order internationally. It has 74 member associations (full members, ecumenical members and corresponding members) in 64 countries, with 25 in Africa , 11 in Asia , 15 in Europe , one country in the Middle East , 5 in North America , 2 in Oceania and 5 South america . It is headquartered in Paris .

MIIC-Pax Romana

In 1947 the student movement Pax Romana founded a second movement in Rome, the “International Movement of Catholic Intellectuals”. It was joined by those who had completed their studies and wanted to continue to belong to the movement as adults . However, it was not only open to doctoral candidates , it also accepted people from the cultural field into its ranks . This means that MIIC makes its cultural and moral knowledge available to the community in order to build and maintain a peace based on justice and the love of Christ . The MIIC has 58,000 members worldwide from a wide variety of organizations, which are represented in 51 countries. They are divided into Africa (10), Asia (8), Europe (23), North America (2) and South America (8). It is headquartered in Geneva .

International organization

The highest organs of MIIC-Pax Romana and MIEC-Pax Romana are the independent plenary assemblies , they meet every four years and consist of the delegates of the national full members. They elect in equal shares the members of the “International Pax Romana Council”, which consists of the President , the Secretary General , the Treasurer and the Ecclesiastical Assistant . The structure includes working groups on questions of human rights , ecology , the economy and human development, as well as five "International Secretariats" in which experts and various areas of work are brought together, in detail this is:
