World Food Day

The World Food Day (also Welthungertag ) held every year on October 16 and is meant to draw attention to millions more people in that world hunger suffer. World Bread Day takes place on the same day.

history

World Food Day was introduced in 1979. Since then it has taken place every year in different countries. In addition to official meetings on that day, dealing with the topics of world hunger and food security deal, often take advantage of NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations, NGOs) the day to draw attention to the global hunger problem.

World Bread Day

Due to the importance of bread in fighting hunger, World Bread Day also takes place on World Food Day. After global hunger had fallen steadily for a decade, the number of undernourished people rose from 777 million (2015) to 815 million (2016). This affects 11 percent of the world's population. According to the FAO, 821 million people suffered from hunger in 2017 .
