Cosmopolitan Saxony for democracy and tolerance

Cosmopolitan Saxony for Democracy and Tolerance is a political program launchedin April 2005 in the Free State of Saxony to combat right-wing extremism , racism and anti-Semitism . The creation of such a program was laid down in the coalition agreement between the CDU and SPD for the fourth legislative period of the Saxon state parliament.

The deputy government spokesman of the Free State of Saxony Andreas Beese has been named as the coordinator of the program. The state program pursues five different program objectives:

  1. Perception of extremism, racism and anti-Semitism as ongoing social issues
  2. Strengthening democratic values ​​in an active civil society
  3. Mobilizing citizens against totalitarian thinking and for tolerance and solidarity
  4. Qualification and advice for specialists in dealing with violence and extremism, especially multiplier training and networking
  5. Victim protection.

In 2005, the program supported 865 projects and events across the country.

financing

For the years 2005 and 2006, 2 million euros were made available from the Saxon state budget, which are broken down as follows:

  • Costs for scientific support and advice: 200,000 euros
  • Cross-departmental public relations: 590,000 euros
  • Subsidies to independent organizations, clubs and associations: 1,010,000 euros
  • Other allocations to municipalities and municipal associations: 200,000 euros

In 2005, 195 projects submitted applications for the available 1.21 million euros, 119 of which were rejected and 76 were approved. In 2006, 67 projects received funding of 1,055,130.50 euros.
