Organizers and organizers

Kuratorium Weltpflügen 2018 eV

The Kuratorium Weltpflügen 2018 eV was founded in 2014 on the initiative of the German Plowing Council. The sole purpose of the Board of Trustees is to organize and hold the 65th World Plowing Championship 2018 in Germany. The chairman of the association is Helmut Wolf, who is also the chairman of the German Plowing Council.

The members of the Board of Trustees are made up of private individuals as well as companies, associations and other institutions.

German Ploughman's Council eV

GDR plowing was held in Germany until 1990. The regulations of the competitions in the GDR were more comprehensive than those in West Germany. This dichotomy brought problems at the 1965 World Cup in Norway. Due to the tense relationship between East and West Germany at that time, the West German team almost wanted to withdraw their participation due to the appearance of the GDR team.

In order to avoid these complications in subsequent competitions, the teams should in future be represented internationally by a club. In 1968, for example, the Deutsche Pflügerrat eV was founded and has been the organizer of state competitions throughout Germany.

AgrarKontakte International (AKI) eV

AgrarKontakte International (AKI) eV is a non-profit association which, as a specialist organization, specializes in the coordination, implementation and support of international projects in the fields of agriculture, nutrition and the environment. In 1998 it emerged from the international work of the state farmers' association in Baden-Württemberg eV (LBV) with various countries. The Kuratorium Weltpflügen 2018 eV has transferred the management of the 65th World Plowing Championship 2018 to AKI.

History of the plowing competitions in Germany

Walter Feuerlein, who worked at the Eberhard plow factory in Ulm, started organizing the first plowing competitions in Germany around 1950 and thus became the founder of plowing competitions in this country.

National competitions in Germany

After a few smaller regional decisions, the first federal competition took place in Bonn in 1953, the same year in which the first world championship in plowing competitions was held. However, only those who had previously qualified as the first or second national winner in their country of origin could participate in the World Plowing Championship held in Canada. To underline the importance of the first German championship, the Secretary General of the World Ploughman Organization (WPO), Alfred Hall, came to Bonn. Hall, journalist and radio presenter, saw the realization of the World Plowing Championship as his life's work and was Secretary General of the WPO for 40 years.

World plowing championships in Germany

In 1958, Germany hosted the World Plowing Championship for the first time. The Agricultural University in Stuttgart-Hohenheim, which was 140 years old at the time, and the newly built cooperative school in the immediate vicinity of the university were the venues for this major event, for which the Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forests Theodor Heuss took over the patronage. With the plow show carried out as part of the World Plowing Championship, which took place under the motto "From Max Eyths Steam Plow to Mounted Plow 1958", the Swabian Max Eyth was commemorated, who 100 years earlier traveled the world with his steam plows and became a pioneer of agricultural engineering. In 1978 the Wickstadt estate in Hesse was the venue for the second World Plowing Championship held in Germany. Another twenty years later, Landshut in Bavaria followed in 1998. The last world plowing championship held in Germany up to now had become an impressive event for the visitors due to the constant rain.
