World Breastfeeding Week

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Breastfeeding Week is one of the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action organized action week. It is considered the largest joint campaign of all breastfeeding promoting organizations, including UNICEF and the WHO , and is celebrated annually in over 120 countries. In Germany it always takes place in the 40th calendar week.

The World Breastfeeding Week took place for the first time in 1991, on the initiative of the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA, translated as “World Alliance for Breastfeeding” or “World Alliance for Active Breastfeeding Promotion”). This is a global initiative for the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide, based on the 1990 “Innocenti Declaration on Protection, Promotion and Support of Breastfeeding” and the UNICEF and WHO Global Strategy on Infant and Young Child Nutrition .

The World Breastfeeding Week takes place every year under a different motto , which is adopted in modified formulations in German-speaking countries. Since the founding of the round table on breastfeeding promotion in 1999, the German transmission at the spring meeting of this committee has been developed and determined.
