The World Day of non-governmental organizations ( World Day of NGOs , English World NGO Day ) is an international calendar , the year on Feb. 27 takes place. It was first used by the 12 member countries of the IX. Baltic Sea NGO forum officially recognized by the Council of the Baltic Sea States in 2010 and listed for the first time in 2014 by the United Nations, EU executives and international organizations.

history

World NGO Day, February 27th, was founded by the Latvian-British humanitarian Marcis Liors Skadmanis. On April 17, 2010, World NGO Day was officially recognized by the Council of the Baltic Sea States at the NGO Forum. The member countries of the Baltic Sea NGO Forum were Belarus , Denmark , Estonia , Finland , Germany , Iceland , Latvia , Lithuania , Poland , Russia , Norway and Sweden . On February 27, 2014 celebrated the Minister for International Development Pekka Haavisto , the Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Jan Mattsson, the European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs , the Secretary General of the Secretariat of the Nordic Council , Britt Bohlin , the Deputy UNESCO Director General Eric Falt and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Director Helen Clark , Former Minister of Women's Affairs of Iran Mahnaz Afkhami and NGO leaders held the first commemoration of World NGO Day in Helsinki , Finland .

The World NGO Day aims to inspire people to introduce them more actively to NGOs and to foster a stronger symbiosis between NGOs and the public and private sectors. The universal concept of World NGO Day is the different NGOs around the world, or those people who stand behind it to celebrate, to think of them, to take part in commemorative events together , to bring them to mind and to work with them.

World NGO Day is also a day for all NGOs around the world, on which they can exchange knowledge and experiences with one another. The aim is to educate individuals around the world about NGOs and their effects. World NGO Day is an opportunity to honor and remember NGO founders, staff , volunteers, other members and supporters.

Around the world

Every year, from New Zealand and Australia to North and South America , World NGO Day is celebrated by NGO sector supporters, international and government leaders, multilateral and bilateral organizations, private sectors, communities, teachers, learners and experts in the field take part. From 2010 to 2018, World NGO Day took place in 89 countries on six continents.
