World Philosophy Day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Philosophy Day is the world's third Thursday in November committed.

history

The 2005 UNESCO General Conference stated in Resolution 33C / Res. 37 that the day of action , which is celebrated around the world, should “ help philosophy to achieve greater recognition and give it and the philosophical doctrine a boost”. In this resolution, all member countries are called upon to actively shape the day in schools, universities, institutions, cities or philosophical associations. In 2009 more than 100 countries responded to this call.

Numerous events have also been held every year in Germany, Austria and Switzerland since 2007. The German UNESCO Commission , the German Society for Philosophy and the German Adult Education Association invite you to participate .

aims

World Philosophy Day draws public attention to philosophical issues and to philosophy as a discipline. World Day is an opportunity for specialist conferences and interdisciplinary workshops. It is an opportunity to seek philosophical conversation with students, laypeople, children and young people. The World Day shows that philosophy is a necessary complement to fact and method learning and thus a decisive basis for all other disciplines. Even the best empirical results cannot be classified without the ability to ask the right questions.
