German Society for Philosophy
The German Society for Philosophy (DGPhil) , previously the General Society for Philosophy in Germany , is the association of philosophers who research and teach at universities and schools in German-speaking countries, as well as all who want to participate in the German philosophical intellectual life. The founding initiative came from Georgi Schischkoff at the 1st German Philosophers' Congress in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1947 . In 1950 it led to the founding of the General Society for Philosophy in Germany eV On September 25, 2002, the general assembly passed the resolution to change the name to German Society for Philosophy eV . The company is based in Leipzig; the office is in Jena.
goals and tasks
The goals according to the statutes are to interest large groups in philosophical work and to let them participate in its results, to represent interests of philosophy at universities and schools as well as through an annual forum for philosophy and through the three-yearly German congress for Philosophy to promote the exchange of scientific results in philosophy. DGPhil's tasks also include representing German philosophers in the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de Philosophie (FISP) and strengthening cooperation with national organizations abroad.
organization
The association is managed by a board of directors consisting of the president, manager and treasurer. An extended board, which is supposed to represent the different areas of work and approaches in philosophy, advises the board. The general assembly usually meets every three years on the occasion of the German Congresses for Philosophy. It elects the board and is responsible for changing the statutes.
The DGPhil currently has more than 2,600 members, with the number of members increasing by around 200 per year. The members include over 20 philosophical professional associations with different tasks and priorities; Numerous specialist philosophical publishers are linked to DGPhil through personal membership, mostly senior staff. There are various specialist working groups (FAGs). The Working Group on Philosophical Editions is also affiliated.
communication
The society publishes a free quarterly publication four times a year digitally ( Mitteilungen der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Philosophie ) and operates a website at www.dgphil.de, on which, among other things, an overview of all philosophical courses in the German-speaking area as well as an extensive calendar of events are provided. Members are made aware of events and calls for papers by email and receive relevant job advertisements in the same way.
