from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World TB Day (abbr .: World TB Day) is a day of remembrance and falls on the March 24 of each year, so the memory of the tuberculosis keep alive in public, by the still each year about 940,000 people die ( most of them in the developing world ).

This day of the year was chosen deliberately because on March 24, 1882, Robert Koch announced the discovery of the tuberculosis bacterium in Berlin . At that time tuberculosis was so widespread in Europe and America that one in seven died from it. By discovering the cause of the disease, it was possible to develop a therapy for the disease.

In 1982, on the 100th anniversary of the above publication, the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (IUATLD) proposed March 24th as World Tuberculosis Day . In 1996, WHO followed suit to give more weight to this day.
