Wendel from Gemmingen

Wendel von Gemmingen († 1486 ) came from the Velscher branch of the Barons of Gemmingen . In 1452 he was the Palatine court chamber master and later Fauth .

Life

He was one of the sons of Ravan von Gemmingen. In 1436 he seems to have been registered for the clergy, but he probably did not enter. In 1451 and 1452 he appears among those nobles who demanded that Count Palatine Friedrich I should adopt his nephew Philip as a child. In 1454 he was with Konrad von Gemmingen assessor at a court over the disputes between the Count Palatine Friedrich and the Lords of Lichtenberg. In gratitude for his loyal service, he received a fief of 1,000 guilders on the customs of Kaub . He also owned half of Stebbach as a Palatinate fief, but gave it back to the Palatinate. He died in 1486 and was buried in Gemmingen .
