Spiral section

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A spiral route (also: spiral) is a spiral-shaped route to overcome differences in height between the floors of a mine .

Approach and application

Spiral stretches are usually excavated in the adjacent rock of steeply dipping or stock-like deposits . The radius and incline are designed so that they can be driven on by trackless vehicles. Often, spiral stretches run out by the day and thus enable the uninterrupted (i.e. unloading-free) transportation of people , material and debris . Spiral sections are often used in salt , potash and ore mining .
