Wendgräben (Brandenburg an der Havel)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wendgräben is a residential area in the city of Brandenburg an der Havel .

Location and history

Wendgräben is about seven kilometers southwest of Brandenburg city center. The former estate and the colony are located on the eastern shore of Buckau in the Neustadt forest. Magdeburger Heerstraße runs in the northeast, and Breitlingsee is further northeast .

The village of Wentgroeben was mentioned in a document in 1368 and 1381. The place was a little west of the present-day estate and was already desolate in 1400. During this time Hans von Quitzow had settled here to control the road between Saxony and Anhalt.

In the 16th century, the Wendgräben estate was built west of the desert village. Before that there was a sheep farm here. The sheep farm was extended to the Vorwerk, but this was then dissolved again in 1848. Even before this, until 1928, there was a forestry shop here.

The Wendgräben colony is located southeast of the property. The colony was established in 1754. In 1858 there were six residential buildings and nine farm buildings here.

Architectural monuments

Three architectural monuments have been identified for Wendgräben.

  • Wendgräben 9, homestead: The homestead was built in the second half of the 18th century. The house of the homestead is a single-storey, eaves brick building with a gable roof, the right side of the roof is designed as a crooked hip. The house has four axes, the second axis from the left is the entrance. The stable building and the barn were built in the 19th century.
  • Wendgräben 19, Gutshof: The estate was built in the 16th century. The estate was first a sheep farm, then a forestry. With the establishment of the alluvial sewer system in Brandenburg an der Havel in 1898, it was used as a sewerage for Brandenburg. The sewage fields were located north of the estate and south of the former Magdeburg Heerstraße. The irrigation was discontinued in the construction of the Briest sewage works. The current manor house was probably built in the first half of the 18th century. The manor house is a two-story house with a hipped roof. In the third axis to the left of six axes, the entrance is under a balcony. The stable was built around 1760, the barn around 1910. In the manor house and two other buildings there are now holiday apartments, while weddings and other events are held in the stable and barn.
  • Wendgräben, Backhaus: To the east of the manor house is the Backhaus. It is the last bakery in the Brandenburg district.
