Life

At the age of nine, Wendo became an orphan. He came into the care of the church, which he found to be too strict, so that he left the priests who were educating him three years later. At first Wendo worked as a river boat mechanic and boxer until he began making musical recordings in 1948. During this time he cultivated friendships with Patrice Lumumba, among others . Wendo became known to a wide audience with the title Marie Louise , although the Catholic Church criticized Wendo for the text. Wendo even accepted a short prison sentence for satanism for the freedom of his music . Wendo died after a long illness at the age of 83 in a clinic in Kinshasa.
