Wallersee-Wenger Moor European Protected Area
The Wallersee-Wenger Moor European protected area is located on the north bank of the Wallersee in Flachgau .
The nature and European protected area is also a Natura 2000 area. It is divided into the northeast Wenger Moor and the southwest Zeller Moor . The two moors are separated by the Eisbach , which flows from the village of Weng into the Wallersee.
The protected area includes various types of biotope such as bog forest , fens, raised bogs, transitional bogs, litter meadows , wet meadows and the silting zone of the Wallersee. Several species of birds breed here, such as the common snipe , the curlew and the kingfisher . Migratory birds use the area as a resting place. Several beavers have lived here since 2007 .
Entering the protected area is only permitted on public paths and marked hiking trails.
