State Secretary Richard Willey is staying with his wife Pamela in a hotel in London. While his wife is in the theater, he plans a rendezvous with his lover Jennifer. His assistant George is supposed to book a room for him under a false name. Unfortunately, this room is right next to Richard's, George gets entangled in all sorts of contradictions that make the hotel manager suspicious and when Pamela surprisingly comes back to the hotel and spontaneously decides to have a nap with George, a breathtaking series of excuses and contradictions begins and mix-ups that also involve the maid and waiter. When Jennifer's husband finally turns up, a scandal seems inevitable - but the ingenuity of everyone involved is even greater than expected.
