The Wennsee is a lake in the municipality of Scharbeutz in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein .

The lake with a size of about 7.5 ha is located in Scharbeutz - about one kilometer from the Baltic Sea - framed by terminal moraine courses . The lake has an elongated-oval shape that runs roughly in a north-south direction - and is approx. 600 m long and approx. 200 m wide. It serves as a fishing and swimming lake.

history

The name of the lake is apparently derived from the Slavic tribe of the Wends ("Wendensee"). The old village of Scharbeutz, mentioned in a document as early as 1271 (Scarbuce), 1272 (Schorebuce) and 1308 (Scarboce), was probably located on a hill by this lake.
