Factory acceptance

The factory acceptance is the acceptance of a product nor the manufacturer (Engl. F actory A cceptance T est - FAT). Following the factory acceptance of the usually followed by S ite A cceptance T est (SAT) to the customer.

In plant engineering and mechanical engineering, this can be the acceptance of a plant or machine , but also, for example, software in the field of information technology . The factory acceptance test is usually carried out jointly by the client and contractor or their authorized representatives.

If the tests carried out show no or only insignificant defects , the machine can be accepted. If, on the other hand, significant defects are found, the factory acceptance test will be carried out again after previous supplementary performance (removal of defects) by the supplier until the machine is found to be free from defects. Alternatively, it is up to the customer to decide whether to accept the machine in spite of identified defects, in which case a compensation arrangement ( e.g. price reduction , extended warranty , free or reduced-cost supply of spare parts ) is usually made.

All steps of the factory acceptance are recorded in a written acceptance protocol , which is then signed jointly by the client and the contractor.

The factory acceptance test is carried out in the same way in other branches of industry , such as electrical engineering .
