The Workshop of Writing Workers Zurich was an association of authors with the aim of writing and publishing texts from the world of work.

The workshop of writing workers in Zurich was founded in 1972 as the Swiss section of the German working group literature in the world of work , which has existed since 1970 . According to the program, the aim was to raise awareness of the human and material problems of the world of work and thus to contribute to changing social conditions in the interests of the workers .

The members, including craftsmen, industrial workers, technical and commercial employees, teachers and students, met weekly for working sessions, discussed and edited their texts.

Politically, the workshop was oriented towards the trade union and labor movement . As a result, she came into the focus of the Swiss politician and subversive hunter Ernst Cincera at times , as the later fishing scandal revealed.

The Zurich workshop worked on the paperback series of the German work group at Fischer Verlag . In addition, she published her own workshop books from 1974 to 1996 , as well as the anthology Hinter den Fassaden , which was also published in French. Texts were often published in the trade union press and other media and presented at readings.

Individual members later became professional authors, including Kurt Badertscher , Beat Eberle , Wolfram Malte Fues , Emil Zopfi , and filmmakers such as Gitta Gsell and Walo Deuber .

In 1979 the city of Zurich awarded the workshop of writing workers Zurich with a gift of honor.

In 1996 the workshop was dissolved.
