Walo Deuber

Walo Deuber (born March 29, 1947 in Freiburg im Üechtland ; † April 28, 2017 in Erlenbach ZH ) was a Swiss journalist , film director , screenwriter and politician .

Life

Walo Deuber studied German , history and philosophy at the University of Zurich and at the Free University of Berlin and graduated in 1976 as Dr. phil. I with a dissertation on the work group literature in the world of work .

From 1976 to 1981 Deuber was a journalist for various media, including a. at Blick and Schweizer Illustrierte , at the social democratic daily newspaper AZ and the Keystone photo agency . He was also an editor at Limmat Verlag in Zurich . Deuber reported u. a. from Biafra , Bangladesh , India and Berlin and worked as a humanitarian aid worker in refugee camps.

From 1981 Deuber came to film through “learning by doing”, first at the DRS television with films in the Telebühne broadcasting vessel together with Xavier Koller . He was a screenwriter and director of feature and documentary films in Switzerland, Germany, the USA, Italy and the Ukraine.

From 1998 to 2014 he was a lecturer in dramaturgy, literature and film at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences .

From 2001 to 2007 he was a visiting professor for literature and film at California State University, Long Beach .

From 2006 to 2012, Deuber was a local councilor in the social and health department in his municipality of Erlenbach.

Walo Deuber was married to the theologian Käthi La Roche and had a daughter.
