reputation

La Roche is regarded as a courageous church woman and became known far beyond the Zurich city and canton borders during her service. She commented on the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in the USA: “[…] these would not have hit the heart of 'Western civilization', but rather the centers of financial and military power. But these hearts are made of stone and steel - without any feeling for the needs of the people. " La Roche is also accorded political sensitivity, for example in the spring of 2003 when young people occupied a church tower in the Grossmünster as part of a protest against the Iraq war . On the other hand, she was open to criticism of the Christian faith by admitting after the earthquake in the Indian Ocean in 2004 «[...] that in such situations it is easy to ask oneself whether God is hard of hearing. The overwhelming global sympathy, willingness to help and solidarity show, however, that 'God is already on the plan' ». On the occasion of the peaceful occupation of the Grossmünster in December 2007 by refugees, as part of a protest against the tightened asylum law , she showed a willingness to dialogue and sympathy. At the memorial service of the writer Hugo Loetscher , Käthi La Roche gave the funeral speech on August 28, 2009 in the Grossmünster.
