Company residential complex Fröbelstrasse
The company residential complex Fröbelstrasse is located in Bremen , Vegesack district, Fähr-Lobbendorf district , Fröbelstrasse 60-90. The group of buildings was built in 1939 according to plans by Rudolf Jacobs . It has been a listed building in Bremen since 2013 .
history
The Bremer Vulkan shipyard grew considerably after the First World War . After 1920 the number of employees rose steadily to over 4,000. The volcano was forced to build company apartments for the migrant workers as close as possible to the shipyard.
Before and after the First World War, the Bremer Vulkan built numerous company apartments for its "Vulkanese" people; Affordable workers' houses and apartments near the shipyard (see also Werkswohnhaus Weserstraße ).
The neighboring settlement planned in 1939 with 22 buildings in what was then Aumund, between Lindenstrasse and the shipyard, could only be realized in one construction phase on what was then Schulstrasse, now Fröbelstrasse.
This so-called "follower settlement" was financially supported by the state because it was in the interests of the navy. The five conservatively designed two-story houses with hipped roofs each had a barn extension. Two four-family houses are on the street, one four-family house is set back, flanked by two two-family houses. The ensemble forms a U-shaped system around a courtyard. The other construction phases were no longer realized due to the war.
The renovated residential buildings were retained, the shipyard was closed in 1997.
The Bremen architect Jacobs designed the Park Hotel Bremen , the Lloyd train station and the Bremen 5 post office among many other buildings .
